yeah looked exactly like my VE did when i over revved it when i had no rev limiter set. Probably saw 12-13k when i mis shifted 2nd gear with a no lift shift. It wasnt pretty. haha. Mine was cylinder number 3 that floated the valve.

It was weird because none of the other pistons had any kiss marks from valves. It just floated one valve and broke the head off and caused damage exactly like that.

The factory rev limiter will not always top an overrev when your full throttle or something lets go right close to redline. It doesnt react fast enough with that much power being applied. Ive overrevved my built de motor several times with my 8k rev limiter and it saw probably 12-13k as well and never floated a valve. I threw a rocker arm one time when my axle snapped on a rev limiter launch on slicks. But the rest of the valvetrain was perfect. Replaced the rocker and it was good to go.

Ive had 3rd and 4th gear let go 3 times causing a rev to 10k+ and never even threw a rocker.

I dont think the ve's like to be over reved with stock springs and retainers.

It's there. It's this one:

Sucks about your mishap. Build it better than before, now!

Since when are there 2 limiters? And if we want a 8K limit thats the end of the grid.

That i know of the the correct limiter is 7950 rpms and not 8000rpms, I tested them on many customer cars boost, nitrous and all motor, 7950 is the highest that it can set and work, I never had an issue of it not stopping.

I had mine and my buddies limiters set at 8000 and both worked just fine under normal rev limiter situations like reving in neatral or accelerating up on it but when you get in boost situations where the rpms jump like crazy and your under full boost and full throttle it will hit a couple times then shoot right past it to whatever until you shift or let off.

Then if something lets go under full throttle acceleration or you mis shift at full throttle it will a lot of times shoot right past it or hit a couple times then shoot past it.

Its picky sometimes. Sometimes it will hit and stay tapping the limiter and others it will shoot past. Its unreliable like Coheed said especially for boost applications. N/A not soo much. You try stopping a 460whp motor at 7000 rpms when a gear lets loose and keep that from reving above 8k It goes soo quick that the ecu just cant catch it and keeps supplying fuel.

well I never had any issues, I have missed gears with 400+hp foot on the floor when i shift and it never passed the limiter. at the recent event that passed I missed 3rd trying to get use to the b15 gearbox selector, and when i shift at full throttle at 7950 rpms it always taps the limiter momentarly
I broke an axle with se-rican in the car full load in third gear, it went up to the limiter bounced and I backed off. maybe where i set it, it gives it more room to work with than 8000 rpms on the money, then again just my belief.

you could have a good point. Maybe once it gets past that 8k point where it no longer reads it might just give up and go back to the last known parameters for fuel and timing and continue running.

Having it set slightly lower might give the ecu that 50 rpm cusion to where its still sensing that its over the limiter.

in this vid you can see it shoot past as the revs and power just powered it right past it almost to 9k for a moment.
