I have had the C clip rings from the newer style transmissions pop off on me a few times. The shift forks are not all held in by roll pins now, but rather C clips... Nissan says to replace them Every time after they are removed and I highly Agree with them. I have had them pop off, and have it stuck in say 4th gear, and the C clip gets stuck and Jams the shift assembly and you cant go in and or out of gear.

very true, definetly thinking something along the lines of the shift mechanisms inside. They are totally different then the B13/14 ones. Only way to know is to take it apart and see.

Just for the record B15 QR18DE transmission share all the internal parts except the differential with the P11 one so if you want to keep a transmission for parts they are easy to get and cheaper than P11 ones thats just a tip jejejeje....

Thank you snickers! this gives me hope because it looks as though the tranny only has issues with the shift mechanism! it will NOT go into 5th, or even move to the right where the 5th gear gate is.

The 1-4 gates can be felt, but it won't shift gears. This makes me believe that it is just an issue with the shift mech.

Hopefully all that racket I heard isn't lots of stuff breaking. If so, I got a B15 ready to go and I will just swap the FD to the P11 one and take advantage of a longer 5th gear

Or I will just swap it in until I get sick of the shorter gearing.

Come down and pick 'er up! it should have the honors of putting down WAY better numbers than my current setup allows. Do NOT use the .78 housing on a 76r. Absolutely pointless for making good power numbers. And a disco will yield better response anyway.

I decided to try pulling the case off while the trans is still in the car. Just got started tonight, but ran out of daylight. Took the reverse gear out, drained the fluid, and pulled the CV out. Now all I need to do is take the mount off, take out the two bolts for the shafts, and unbolt the case. The whole trans should be able to stay in the car. If not I will just pull the whole thing off. Still debating...

But little tiny pieces of metal came out of the fluid

I counted 4 tiny pieces, def a hard steel of some sort. Whatever it is that went wrong I will let you guys know and I should be able to get replacement parts for it from Greg V. Maybe get the car running in a jiffy. I'm praying for Sep 12 to have it going. I will find out wednesday what I need and get it ordered in.

sucks to hear that.

I had somthing similar happen a while back on a old B13 i had,
the clutch disk ACT broke in pieces and got stuck on the flywheel and scuffed it up prety bad ,
the throw out bearing snapped along with the clips.

i got a new clutch disk and sanded the PP and flywheel and got a new OEM throwout bearing and OEM clips, and problem solved.

Update. The transmission is toast! I am not sure what gear this is, but it is completely shattered.

The bottom shift fork arrow on the left is the gear that broke. The arrow points right to the gear. It looks like the sister-gear (input shaft) to that one is the one that originally broke.

This HAS to be second gear. Because that is the one that decided to grenade when blasting the car. I got pics up in a sec.
