How many laps can you pass on a circuit
Or how long can you run at wot or at uphill climbing with your setup? I am asking because my car has never been able to drive longer than on my vids at youtube and vimeo. I have an EGT gauge and i am getting over 900deg celsius very soon at +-14psi (afr: 12.0, base timing:15,consult timing sais 13-17). At 7psi it was a bit better but still no problem to overheat it especially on summer. I run DE 10:1+common gtir setup,370@4bar, calum basic.

Now when my turbo started smoking and oil consuption became increddible high, i am thinking about upgrade(maybe 2871 .86?) or just a turbo replacement, but first i would like to know what can i afford with basic setup and what i cant. I need my car to be able run at least 5miles uphill(or hit max speed before it). Maybe i had just bad tune or something else incorrect... so thats why i am asking, thank you much

where do you have mounted the probe of the EGT ?? what type of fmic size? size of the DP?Time for a better fmic, DP , external wastegate and alky injection .. .I never tune a stock piston with more than 760-80celcius from 1 gear to full speed.
cheers.

the probe is in the gtir mani 1st cylinder, dp and exh. is 3", dont have IC dimmensions, but its this one:http://img28.picoodle.com/img/img28/2/6/24/pinki1/f_24062009321m_47322f5.jpg
I also have some logs (afr and consult stuff in innovate logworks format). the overheating and egt numbers are real, its not just my feeling, WHen hit 900deg the car is starting run weird -weaker, when hit 1000 its always misfireing. I never can do max speed at once.. Even at 7psi, i have an old downhill vid on youtube(called top speed test) i remember the car started misfiring too at that time.

I believe water/alky will help, bigger ic too

JP, should i think bout the schwitzer turbo from jagy? i emailed you about that before.

High EGTs are the downside to the petrol engines and turbos combo. Once the gasses around the turbo get too hot the turbo just wont work as well. You just have to start doing all the small cooling mods you can, your tune is probably fine your set up is just going to run hot.

It looks like you have a good idea of what you need to do. Yes a bigger turbo will help some, alcohol injection would make a big difference. You might think about changing the pistons out for some lower compression cousins from a det. Maybe having the pistons coated along with your exhaust manifold or at least just wrap the exhaust with fiberglass as much as will fit. Make a duct for your radiator and IC if you keep them front mounted and fill all the little open gaps with household insulation foam if you can. Air is a fluid just like water just think as though there is water leaking in all the open gaps around the cores. That IC looks to be on the wimpy side, if I was in your shoes I would start looking at a water to air setup with lots of ice in the car for ballast.

well for one it seems like you are just getting alot of heat soak. i brought up a honda fad in on one of my threads about the whole hood spacers to relieve some of the engine bay heat soak, this although not as much efficent as a nitrous air cooling system or water to air, might relieve some of that engine heat soak you might be seeing.

exhaust gas temps have alot to do with air fuel ratios also, so depending on how your car is tuned the hottest EGT temps come around stoitch, cooler after stoitch and cooler before stoich but around stoitch is where you will see the hottest egt, so depending on how your car is tuned you might have some of your air fuels more focused around stiotch increasing your egt, that is just a guess though

Import Tuner just did a test on a miata on the hood spacer cooling effect. Under hood temps dropped an average of 13.5 degrees F on a 1.6 N/A Mazda engine. I would imagine the temps would drop much more on a boosted application. This has not been tested by me yet, but it did help keep a top mount setup I did a bit cooler and it took longer to heat soak (stock hood). The suggestions that the others have given you are also great ideas but I wanted to comment on the hoop spacer reply because it is a free mod and I just read the article last month. You probably need more than that if you want to hit top speed up hill for a long time, but it may help some.
