My black car originally had an open Tial BOV on a draw through setup when I first bought it. It compressor surged like a mofo, so I got rid of it ASAP.
I got a DSM bov (uncrushed) that didn't work very well for me, but there was something wrong with it. I was still getting quite a bit of compressor surge. When I tested it with a vacuum pump, it didn't even
start to open until 15 inHg. Again, there was obviously something wrong with it, most people seem to like them.
After that I switched to a Greddy RS recirc'ed, which I liked very much. Pretty much silent, no compressor surge, happy camper.
Right now I have a Turbo XS recirc'ed on my white car. It's OK. It's not as quiet as the Greddy was, and once in a great while coming out of part throttle low RPMs I get a split second of surge. I plan on replacing it eventually.

and the reason is...
More prone to failure or something? IDK, from my experience with compressor surge (with 3 out of 4 BOVs I've owned), I very much like having the ability to control it.
