There are 3 FWD DET MAFs from what I rememeber. A 240sx or S13-S15 DET MAFs will not wok.
GTIR MAF 54C00
W11 and Newer U13 53C01
Early U12 MAF 53J00
Somewhere along the line I think you did something wrong.
