RWD manifold puts turbo way into radiator. To try to make it fit you have to cut off the flange and trim the manifold and agle the flange inwards to the block.

This brings up other issues but I will let you go ahead and do it.

There is a reason that these things are not done, maybe because it has been tried before and is a waste of time.

Andreas is correct, at least with the manifold I have. The turbo flange is angled up from the front toward the engine. This angle allows the U12 and gtir clocked turbos to point in the correct upward direction. I think andreas is telling us the rwd turbo flange is parallel to the ground or at an angle the is incorrect for the fwd turbos I mentioned. I you don't know how to weld, the rwd manifold would be an unnecessary headache.
Char, if you need some pics of this angle, I'll snap some pics if you have not yet grasped my explaining.

I personally do not need to clear my AC, I removed it. As well as Im looking to get a custom j-pipe and downpipe made, so I can honestly use any manifold I like, doesnt need to be a copy of the GTiR. But Im also looking for a way to kill all the bends needed to get the pipe to run correctly under the oil pan, a manifold that moves the turbo over some would help a lot.

Since you don't a/c, and I'm assuming you or someone you know can weld...anything is possible. I'm also fabbing my own j-pipe from a rwd j-pipe. I'll post pics of that when I'm done.

i fully agree with andreas about using the bigger housing, the smaller housing can cause some part throttle surge issues, there really is no noticable difference with drivabillity on the road either by using the bigger housing.

I dont agree however with going with a 2871, i pretty much hate that turbo. Never seen it do anything worth shouting about, maybe its just us over here Simon ran one on his car a few years ago and tbh the 3071 completely owned it.

I know its all been said before but a 2871 will not make anywhere near 420whp on any dyno in england, you'd be very lucky to get that at the fly.

my choice would be a 3071 everytime on a 2litre gtir, but then again, you dont have the benefit of awd which may cause some traction issues


Whats the details on this set-up? What a/r, internal WG, etc....

Will it bolt up to the gtir stock manifold?

you know that the new manifold xspower makes are nice and beefy, i bet we could set a group buy.

the pic of that RWD mani that was modded on a FWD only worked because the car had no A/C.. and the oil return line was where the A/C bolt goes. You know the RWD and FWD flange is flipped
