Turbo noob help plz ?
I have a few questions I've done abit of research but seem not to find anything valid? looking to turbo my stock VVL...basic W10-W11 set up (330 WHP goal)

* What the hell does a Wideband 02 sensor output reading do/ used for? I read tune A/F raitios how? AAC Valve adjustment or something?

* Can I hook up the wideband to the my AFC Neo?

* what is the purpose of a boost controller if I crank the boost up/down wouldn't I have to re-tune the car over and over again?

* Recirculation good/bad for VVL's most info is on DE/DET's?

* I'm not familiar with BB turbo's cooling system? If I remember the non-BB turbo's needed oil thus why the block was tapped for oil feed? do I still need to tap the block for a BB Turbo?

*Sorry If these questions are retarted ...never been a turbo guy been N/A for 12 years heading to the Darkside thu

You have a lot of really big questions man, you should google even for the first 3 lol.

But I'll answer those 3 in quick version.

Wideband is needed so you can see your AFR (air fuel ratio) because the OEM o2 sensor is a narrowband setup and so hooking up one of those cheapy gauges do it will be nearly useless to you since you can only really see if it's rich or lean and have no idea what it's really at. Wideband sensor/gauge will let you see the actual AFR number you are at. You need that to tune for a turbo so you can see how much you have to increase fuel flow for any given condition to keep the AFR at a safe level. Without it, you'll have no way to tune.

AFC Neo is one way to tune the A/F ratios, probably the simplest. Obviously not the best, but it does work just fine. It changes the MAF signal so the ECU thinks there is more airflow and adds more fuel. You have to tell it by RPM and throttle how to alter the signal. It's pretty easy.

No, your wideband will not hook up to SAFC Neo. You need a seperate gauge and you tune by logging data from the wideband or changing it in real time.

Yes, if you change the boost, you'll have to retune. Luckily, most systems allow you to easily retune if you've already tuned it for that once.. (EG: for safc neo, just write down your numbers and you can retune it in about 10 or 15 mins no problem). Other systems more complex, but you get the idea. With a calum ECU you can simply reflash the rom to change your tune.

I'll touch on the things Danja didn't hit.

I assume you're talking about the blow-off valve / by-pass valve. Simple rule is MAF equipped cars get recirculated, and MAP equipped cars can do either. Yours right now is a MAF equipped car, and I'm predicting gyou won't be doing the work to convert to MAP, so don't worry about that.

All turbos need oil. Some use (but none absolutely need) water to prevent oil caking when engine is shut off while hot and to pro-long turbo life. I haven't seen a non-water cooled turbo used in ages, so you're going to want to prepare to feed the turbo both.

A note about what Danja said about upping the boost and re-tuning. I'm not familiar enough with the SAFC stuff to say anything about it, but other tuning techniques (table based fuel tuning systems) easily allow for you to tune for a wide range of boost so you can turn it up or down without having to worry about re-tuning a thing.

KK so I can axe my AFC Neo for a Calum RT.!..Thnx ben I think im just gonna stick with K.I.S.S.(keep it simple stupid) after what you just said no boost controller needed I think 1 good tune and call it a happy day

Thanks guys for helping with my noob questions I know how annoying they can be
