Blown Tranny #3 DAMN IT!! What to do?
So this past Wednesday I went to Mid Ohio for a track day. It was part of the Z Car Club connvention this week in Cleveland. So I'm the first session out and lap 3 I downshift ( with a proper blip of the throttle ) into third and let out the clutch. And it pops out of gear. I say WTF and go to shift back into it and grind grind grind clank clank is what I get This is the third tranny I've blown third out of. This tranny lasted 2.5 years and I paid $200 for it out of a 100,000 mile car. So I guess I can't be mad, but DAMN IT. It couldn't break the week before at the strip or all the beatings I gave it this summer. It just had to break at Mid Ohio. Thats where it started a rod knock on a parade lap 3 years ago.

So now I'm trying to figure out what route to go. Do I get another B13 tranny and have the gears shot peened and cryo treated. With a new LSD and bearings. Or do I go for the P11 trans. Both are expensive. I know the P11 gearing is better for turbo but will it be as strong as the other option? So lets hear your thoughts guys

I'm cheap, so here's what I'd do.

1) Go to local junkyards
2) Go to car-part.com, contact all the junkyards within a 100 mile (or however far you'd drive) radius and search for a "non-LSD" LSD tranny. Meaning, get pics through e-mail and find a gem for <$500 shipped. It's much easier than you think.

Doesn't sound like the normal 3rd gear explosion. Sounds like the syncro gave out on you and the dog teeth got ground up. Open that sucker up and see if you can't just throw a new 3rd gear in?

Oh wait you heard clanking? Nm you're ****ed.

By the way, what type of power are you making?

What is the powerplant and clutch in the car? If you are around 200-250hp or less go with another b13 trans. Over that power and go with the b15/p11. They are stronger than a cryo gear stack.

Maybe think about an electronic oil pump and trans cooler setup with the B13 trans

1. LOL ben!

2. x2 stratton

3. I've been driving around on my B15 tranny cryotreated and shotpeened for over 3000 miles w a 400ish whp setup. no issues whatsoever. i also noticed that when i first drained the tranny after a couple hundred miles, there were ZERO metal shavings AT ALL. the shotpeening seems to really get rid of anything that could cause extra friction on top of hardening the part. my friend's dad builds cryogenic tanks for a living and is looking for a parts cryo guy for us now so if you're interested PM me and maybe we can get something together. i also have a local shotpeening guy who did my tranny.
