The gearing is nice and even on the transmission. No big drops between gears as it is an SE-R gear-set. I think first gear is too steep, in my opinion. The transmission case of the 99 G20, however, is the strongest of the 32 series (along with the SR16VE transmissions). The gear-set is the weaker link compared to the B15 and late P11 transmissions as they are the 70 series with larger cases and gear stacks and many other differences that make those transmissions a bit stronger.
As for gearing, it all depends on what you want or what you want to do with the car that makes the most sense.
