Also, I never said scuffing the clutch disc led to a failure. I just see it as an odd procedure as the clutch disc is a wear item and using any sort of foreign material to "scuff" it may alter it's engagement. Don't forget, the clutch material is "organic" (as in, not metallic but ceramic or the sorts) in nature
However, you mentioned earlier in the thread that..........
........ This same setup dynoed 330/298 on e85 @12lbs before I got the car Now its on a 12lb 93 tune ...so just guessing here....
So you have no idea on how many clutch drops the past owner or launch control procedures the previous owner did?? Hmmmmmm. Now, I am not insinuating the previous owner is what lead to the failure at all, but not knowing the prior usage it is tough to simply lay the entirety of the blame on the clutch company. Now, the rivets should not have failed and should have held up to much more torque than either of your produced.......no denying that. However, if the prior owner drag raced from light to light on slicks, well it sure as hell didn't do you any favors...........
The PO had supposedly just installed that clutch and it was barely broken in at the time of my purchase, and looked as such when removed to replace the motor..at least that is what my understanding was at the time. I have no reason to believe he was misleading me since most everything else about the car was what he said it was and hes an upstanding forum member. If he wants to chime in he can....but at this point,I am not trying to blame anyone.I am not sure if the clutch was installed before or after those dyno pulls he did on e85 to tune it,or after that. It really doesnt matter at this point, just beating a dead horse here.
It is what it is.Just trying to see how many others had this happen ,and/or if someone ever found a cause for theirs failing.
I would not expect clutchmasters to do anything, but they should be made aware of it(even though it make no difference.lol)
I know the manufacturer will laugh in my face if I tell them I bought this car with the clutch and expect them to do anything about replacing it.For that reason,I will just suck it up and shell out the money for a new clutch..it just wont be a clutch masters next time. One failure like this is enough for me to just try another option.
I am more upset/frustrated that I had to take the trans right back off 150 miles after getting this whole car back together...it was alot of work time and money .I put a new motor in,and fixed every single thing on this car from front to back over the last year,so I thought I had everything good to go for a while to not have to be wrenching on stuff for a bit..lol
Oh well, these are the joys of 20+ year old modified cars
