Storm: You didn't take the necessary precautions to make sure the header was packaged & sealed properly, berfore you left the store. That is your responsibility (unless of course you have documented proof that you paid for the packing service). End point.
Storm: You also didn't disclose pictures of the entire item you were selling with all the noted defects. That was your mistake. End point.
91sentragti-r: You bought a used item without knowing the complete and current state of the item, at the time of sale. That was your mistake. End point.
Hopefully lesson learned for both parties.
Possible resolution: Post pictures of the shipping damage. If it is just a dent in a seconday, it should not be too expensive to fix. Take it to a fabrication shop, get an estimate. Post up a copy of the estimate. If the estimate is deemed to be reasonable, the seller should foot the bill.
This is the quickest and easiest way out of this situation for both parties. There should be no need to ship a header back and forth across the USA whilst flinging shit at eachother. I am sure both parties can put egos aside and find a quick resolution to this. The more shit that gets flung, the harder it will be to come to a resolution.
I promise you will not be judged by the mistakes you make but by the way in which you choose to deal with them!
Best of luck on finding a speedy resolution. Internet fighting is mostly pointless.
