Thread: CHP, California BAR & SMOG Checkpoints - JUST SAY NO!

Well, it finally happened to me - I got caught up in one of the rolling smog test checkpoints in San Diego today. I was stopped by the CHP on a city street and was directed into secondary. A representative from the BAR informed me that they were doing random smog checks. He told me that it would not affect me at all (COUGH BULL PUCKEY COUGH) and that they were just testing air pollution levels. He then wanted to know why I did not have plates on the car. I told him that I had just acquired it and I had a temporary operating permit that he could clearly see on my windshield. He then *ASKED* me to pull up to the next available smog test machine.

The conversation went like this.

NO.
But sir
NO
Sir I don't think
NO, I will me on my way now.
One moment please.

He then asked the CHP officer for some assistance.

Officer, have I done something wrong
No.
Am i being detained against my will.
No.
So I am free to go.
Yes.
Have a nice day.

And I was on my way to go pickup my plates at AAA. The moral of this story: JUST SAY NO

Leave that Police State and join the United States of America.

LOL... Yeah I live in the Peoples Republic of California. If I didn't love the surf so much I would leave here and head south or down to AUS or NZ.

Good for you! The same thing happened to me one morning in my old B12 except I didn't have a drivers license, no insurance or paid tags but because they were so focused on all the mod stickers on my window they never bothered to ask me for any of that stuff! - I also said "NO" and went on my way. (Sweating bullets of course) Beware! They will focus on your stickers!

Crazy part was that I had just come from picking up my 99 from the smog check shop and on my way to get the plates. Go figure.

Why I moved out of Cali. We can pass smog with Det swaps legally here in Colorado. No such thing as smog check points here. If I paid taxes in CA I would be irate that your tax money goes to this in a bad economy.

That's such horse shit, so pretty much ask them if you've done anything wrong, 'no' the. They have no reason to detain you. See ya later

That is crazy,wasnt aware that things like that existed. So if im correct its like a dui stop but they check your car for emmisions?
