I was on stock ecu. S4's like a little more than 15 deg timing. I bet you could pick up 4-5whp just by bumping your timing to 17 deg or so. CAI's are not near as efficient as a short ram intake w/ pop charger. Its already proven that while moving a short ram w/ pop charger will make more power than a CAI, Only advantage to a CAI is stop and go when the bay gets heat soaked. The jwt s3's liked 19 deg timing any more would feel worse and any less would feel worse. The s4's like right around 17 deg base timing when using a stock ecu.
This was my very first se-r and again full interior 91 w/ sunroof, abs, and all seats, stereo and everything. Only thing removed was a/c compressor and lines and spare tire and jack out of the trunk.
When i first put the jdm motor in it had all the listed mods except was on a stock exhaust and stock cams and it went 14.9@91 did the exhaust and went 14.5@94, did the cams and went 14.3 at 97. When you go to the track every weekend like I did back in 02 and 03 you tend to get really good at launching on street tires and flat shifting. Probably had over 500+ passes on that car and setup before I sold it. It was consistent which kicked ass in bracket racing. I came in 2nd several times and every time I lost due to redlight but was closer to my time than the winner. lol. That was vs about a group of 100 people racing brackets every weekend. Fun stuff. The good old days.
