if it smells like fuel I would check the injectors maybe one staying open/leaking

Try pulling the fuel rail bolts (be careful with the black spacers, they really like to get lost!) and tilt the fuel rail back until the injectors are exposed. Put a rag underneath them and turn the car to the almost on position so you can hear the fuel pump priming. See if one or more injectors are shooting out a bit of fuel.
