Thread: help installing outer tie rod

for the life of me i cant get anywhere. doing outer tie rod on my 96 200sx and its not going in. do i need to press it into the knuckle with a ball joint press? how do you guys get it to seat in the knuckle. i swear its not suppose to be this hard and driving me crazy!

ok as a note looking at pics my boots were stuck up high and i was goin at it way harder then need be. looks to me like its a put it in, and tighten nut down. do i tighten just enough to get the cotter pin in. will be picking up the new ones soon once i have them maybe this will all make sense.

It shouldn't give you any problems at all. Did it match up in length and shaft diameter with the old one? All it would be is screwing it on to the inner tie rod and tighten the bolt on the spindle then put the cotter pin in

damn i feel dumb. looking at pics i see that the old one pulled the boot way up high and me being stupid i was trying to seat it all the way. im a idiot way easier then i made.

sometimes your just gota slow down and rethink things.

well they suck but saved me money. had duralast ones, boots cracked. so 3 years later exchanged for free duralast with new hardware. finish tomorrow.
