Thread: BC racing coilover spring rates

I had 8/6kg on aprox. 1000kg N14 (same as B13) with ES bushing all around and it was stiff. Next time id get something like 5/4kg for sure.

So I got my BC's.. 6k/4k
Still trying to dial them in correctly, my friend installed them as part of the group buy price.
I think the preload might be a little too much, he said he did 1/2" of preload. The BC website says to do 5mm, which is the thickness of the spanner wrench they give you. Ill be taking the car to get an alignment soon. Should I have them adjust the preload to 5mm?

I had the stiffness set to 10 clicks from stiff up front & 12 from stiff in the rear.. car was very bouncy even on somewhat smooth roads, especially at speed on the highway. Now I have it set 8 from soft on the front & 10 from soft in the rear. Much less bouncy but still not as smooth as the AGX/Hyperco's were.

Comparing "smooth" is difficult since you went from progressive spring rates to linear spring rates. However, that can be a reason to explain why you feel it is not as "smooth".

More importantly, does it handle better? That is the whole point, is it not?

Turn down the damping, it does not need to be that high for street use. 3-5 up front and 2-3 in the rear and you should be good. If you want to play around and do some cornering i would bump it up a few clicks each.

Preload will effect the alignment so make sure they adjust it first. I would say turn it down, too high can cause the springs to be too stiff.

Damping, not dampening. Unless you want to moisten stuff.

I laugh everytime I see a "I installed coilovers" thread and then somewhere in the thread I see a discussion about ride quality and how to improve it. The answer is to NOT install coilovers, if you're concerned about the ride.

I know I'm late to the party, but based on the first post, I would have thought CSK's with the existing Hyperco springs.

Street priority, same drop....CSK's.

I had Hyperco/AGX and now have Hyperco/CSK and the latter is soooooo much better than the former that it is mind-blowing. Not even close. Waaaay smoother, way more comfortable, better performance - more planted over rough stuff. The comfort is what blew me away as even with the Hyperco/AGX the car handled better than I can drive.
