Thread: B13 vs. NX2000 brake caliper difference ???

What is the difference between the two calipers. When you look them up on part sites (oreilys, autozone, etc.) they show them as the same. So Im confused as two how they are the same part number but different calipers?

nx2000 says ad22 on them and ser i think i say ad18

But what do I look up to buy them and what is the mechanical difference between them. Like why are the ad22 calipers better than ad18; I cant find the answer to that question anywhere

It's a challenge to find the right brake stuff in parts lists. One tip-off is to look for the NX2000 listing that says "Japan built." Sometimes you can even find the AD22 parts listed under SE-R parts as "Japan built."

The specs that you are looking for, compared to front stock B13 SE-R (AD18VE vs AD22)are:

Caliper cylinder bore: 48.1mm vs. 54.0mm (remember, 1 inch=25.4mm if you need to convert to compare to listings)
Brake pad dimension: 97.5mmx42.5mmx10mm thick vs. 106.8mmx41.8mmx10mm thick
Rotor dimensions: 250mmx18mm vs. 257mmx26mm

It's safest to match the specs. Like this listing from Rockauto More Information for RAYBESTOS RC10156 shows the caliper bore as 2.126. That's inches -- divide 54mm by 25.4mm per inch and you get 2.126 inches. That's the caliper that you are looking for.

Thanks bill that answered all my questions. I just could honestly not find an answer anywhere. But ok in the rear is there any upgrade I can do? And the 96 Altima Mc is an upgrade from mine to correct?

I have upgraded the rears on one of my B13s. Before you do so, you really need to seriously ask yourself how you are going to use the car and think about why you may, or may not, want to upgrade the brakes. Honestly, street driving a non-turbo DE, the OEM system with good fluid, properly bled hydraulics, and a set of upgraded pads would give you more than adequate performance. That's my opinion, and not everyone feels the same way.

If you have a turbo, a VE, or plan to put the car on a road course, then a front upgrade is a good idea. The larger rotors and calipers give you a much bigger heat sink that will prevent fade in almost all circumstances. Since upgrading to the front NX system, I have had dead-reliable brake performance on road courses.

Getting into rear upgrades is the next step. I did this for my track car because I was getting some rapid deterioration of the stock Nissan pads that I was running. I probably could have done just as well by upgrading the rear pads. One issue that I ran into was trouble getting the E-brake cables to fit in the Maxima calipers. They go in there and they stay, but the retaining clips are not the right thickness so they fell out. That's not the way that I like to do things, but it is what it is.

From your name, I am assuming that you have a 1994 B13. I also assume that you know that your factory wheels will not fit over the NX2000 calipers with fresh pads. The wheels need to be swapped to aftermarket wheels or stock NX wheels. Otherwise, the calipers need to be ground down until the stock wheels will fit without rubbing. Just making sure that you are aware of this.

Also, if you order NX2000 calipers, make sure that they come with the mounting brackets. Most that are listed as "Loaded" will include the brackets, but it's nice to confirm with a picture or specification that includes the brackets.

Take a good look at the threads that I noted above and come back if you have specific questions.

Wow spot on info. Most definately appreciate the help couldn't ask for any more than what you just gave me. But yes i do and I have b14 ser wheels now I did read that they fit so im good there im just waiting for my all my up front brake parts to come in including braded brake lines. Yep - your B14 SE-R wheels will work nicely. There is such a rich history of information on our forums that sometimes it can be hard to search through all of to find exactly what you need. Good luck with your brakes.

Yea deffinately and my thing is I came from being in the 240 world where im building my 240 for time attack but the sentra stuff is just anohter car I need to learn more about. BUt ok so I read through both of those forums and got great info however, I have one problem from the constant opinions and bouncing back and forth on topics I have only 2 questions for you. The maxima rear brakes do they have to be from and abs car? Also does the mc from an altima have to be an ABS car?
