Thread: Rear Beam support brace

Has any ever tried to brace the rear beam to help it with side to side movement? like this shown in red with rod ends attached on each end?

The blocks at the top are the two front pivot point. so the red lines would be like a panhard bar basically.

I think this should help a bit with the side to side movement, or overkill? speaking track use wise of coarse.

It is not like a panhard since this idea is only reinforcing the beam in relation to itself.

I do not really understand what this would do in all honesty. I guess the same thing the non-traditional anti-sway bars do such as Progress and ST (aka Nismo) and other bars that do not connect the beam to the chassis.

All that is going to do is keep the trailing arms from racking relative to the beam. With the amount of slop in the trailing arm bushings themselves, I doubt you'd even notice you made a change if you did this. Keep in mind Nissan purposely designed these beams to twist and bend. If you stiffen things too much, it may actually start to hurt performance. The panhard works because it's lowering the chassis pickup points for lateral movement.

I see what you guys are saying, but by me saying panhard bar may have confused you of what i meant. I did not mean for these to replace the panhard bar or anything like that, just to help keep the beam squared up when looking at it from above. By using heim joints where the red bars would attach to the beam, it should still react and twist like it is designed to.

In a sense i think of it like the off centred mounts that 2jracing uses. Just trying to think outside the box here and bring some ideas.

What about a 4link system, something like this:

I would imagine getting the trailing arm bushings would do more to stiffen the beam than the braces would.

And I do not like adding more and more links into the puzzle because that allows for more parts to break and slop eventually. (see the video where 2J had their watts linkage break on them in a race)

I hear you on that. The less part to break is better to a point. I guess just a matter of keep it simple works.
