coil over question
I have a 91 b13 with tein ss coliovers, the ride is extremely harsh! The car has ridden like this since I bought it (they came with the car) and I have removed and dis-assembled the coilovers and cleaned and inspected them. They appear to be in perfect shape as far as I can tell. It is lowered but its not slammed. I was thinking of raising it another half inch or so and seeing if I can find some springs with a slightly softer rate.

What I would like to achieve is sport with at least a little compliance, the roads were I live are terrible and I can feel the car literaly lift all four wheels on a mid corner bump (feels like it anyway). This is not a very confidence inspiring feeling at 65 on the highway!

Suspension guru's, does this idea have merit or will I completely screw everything up by doing this?

Thx!

Also, I have taken them through the entire adjustment range and it doesnt achieve the ride I'm after, probably the main reason I'm thinking a softer spring rate.

is there alot of preload on your springs? I'm not sure what the Tein SS looks like but I have D2's and before I had too much preload and my ride was very harsh. I loosened them up and it's a little better.

If he D2's are built like Ksports its a diff design than the Teins. I had Ksports on another car and ran into the same problem you mentioned.

Found this post by Shawn B in the suspension sticky, go ahead and flame me and scream "search noob!!!"

"If you are using these as a daily driver, you may want to consider softer springs (350'ish front, 230'ish rear)."

ALSO.........

Anyone ever tried the Tein pillow ball mounts? JGY has them adertised for $169/set on their site, any opinions?

Reason I'm asking is I recently had some strange noise coming from my front end and I removed and dis-assembled the enitre coil over assemblies, lubed them all up and re-assembled and re installed, the top mounts are a little long in the tooth and will need R&R'd soon. If the Tein pillow balls have passed forum member scrutiny I might consider spending a few extra bucks and getting them instead of stock units.

So, any opinions on the Tein mounts?

I swear, I was about to go quote The Suspension Thread. I *thought* I remembered that the Tiens came standard with some pretty stiff springs. Couldn't remember if it was for the B13 or B14 platform.

Keep in mind, you could probably go even softer than that on a daily, and still have a pretty sporty suspension and huge improvement over stock. The RM's and Hypercos are both approximately 300/200 (linear vs progressive rates...yada...yada...but basically 300/200). I've *thought* that it would be interesting to try out 240/160 on a daily (assuming the aftermarket strut can adjust that low). Still double the stiffness of the stock springs, but 20% less stiff than the RM/Hyperco.

No expertise here on the pillow ball mounts, but JGY is a hit-or-miss, 50/50 proposition on Customer Service.

Ouch.

Would you buy from an E-bay Vendor with a 50% customer satisfaction rating?

Just a heads up.

No, harsh like, only thing I can think to describe it.....coverd wagon??

Almost like theres no suspension under the car at all....

Side note: I live in Oklahoma, home of the worlds most crooked politicians evar! Federal road funds have a way of just vanishing poof like magic!! Needless to say we might have enough nice smooth roads in the state to compile maybe 2-3 road courses! So a little softer suspension is always helpfull and will actually make your car handle better and be quicker through those "at the legal limit" high speed turns.
