Thread: These rear brakes are confusing the hell outta me

Ok Here is the deal. My right side caliper was sticking so earlier this year I replaced it. Fast foward a few months later the same side was sticking again. So I turned the nut for the parking brake till it popped inside. Loosened the adjustment all the way and used 1st gear as a back up. Now I replaced the whole rear set up because the left side piston boot gushed brake fluid.
1)2Rebuilt calipers, new rotors and pads. Now the left side parking brake does not engage no matter how tight the cable. The right side on the other hand is still stiff but does release when the parking brake lever is down. Just do not tighten the adjustment too tight or the wheel will not spin at all.
Now. I assumed the parking brake cable was sticking so I ordered two new cables and the equalizer (front cable).
Now, looking at the equalizer it is angled more to the right (I had to reuse the old one b/c of fitment issues.) That helped 0. The left side still spin when the handle is lifted. Do you guys think the parking brake piston in the new caliper is bad? How the hell does a store keep selling bad rebuilds or should I check something else? I am completely lost. if this post seems jumbled, excuse me, I am in the supermarket on my cell LOL

i went threw 3 rear brake calipers all with bad ebrake setups. one leaked really bad after pulling on the ebrake handle once. Finlay got a set that works good in the back. i would bet its the re-mans and that equalizer should be level not cocked on one side if i remember correctly.

I have a new equalizer, but the problem with the one that Dorman makes is it is not squared at the base. It is Hex and it will allow the cable to keep spinning inside of the ebrake tunnel. The OEM equalizer is form fitted. I have new Dorman parking brakes that look beefy. I swear A1 Cardone rebuilds suck ass.

Wow. I called A1 Cardone and they had me on the line with the brake Quality Control manager. He promises to get to the bottom of this. I guess I am not the only one who complained.

I have put 3 sets of A1 Cardone calipers on the rear of my SE-R every single one either sticks or leaks. I now have 1 that sticks so I just use first gear and keep a rock in my car if I park on a hill. If you get your issue resolved please keep me informed.

They called me today. They said that the parking brake piston they installed must be too short. My right side I know is definately overcompensating for my lack of left side parking brake. Thats why my equalizer is tilted to one side. They told me to go back and get another caliper and report back to them ASAP if it works or not. That still does not help me as I need reliable calipers and have to rebleed the system all over again. UUUUGH!

I am so ready to do Autozone Duralast rebuilds. I have had 0 problems with anything Duralast.

I got the calipers replaced under warranty after a big fuss about me painting them silver. Freaking silver. Arch Autoparts on Utica.
It was the caliper rebuilt badly. A1 Cardone has called me several times wanting to know what the results were. I will call them Monday. They seem concerned about quality.

I use reman from brakewarehouse.com the centric parts. they are great. I used the rotors and the brake calipers but they are painted in a black color.

Rebuild them yourself with OEM parts. It may take some time, but you'll know it's done right.
