By mis aligned trans I just mean maybe some bolts backed out of the mount or something. If the trans is a little loose it can bind the shift linkage at times.

I was thinking about this the other day. It's not likely, but maybe since it seems to take a while to happen the fluid in the transmission might be really bad/old and as the transmission gets heat soaked from driving for long distances the fluid breaks down and causes bad shifting behavior.

Just a thought. I still thinks it's probably the rubber in the spring causing the trouble.

^^^ forgot to say redline shock proof.
When I took out the rubber it was half way pulled out so I'm sure that was it. But when I took it out the headlight relay was bad so I've got some wiring to do before I can test it out lol.

sorry to bring up an old thread but I took the rubber out and it solved it until today. on the freeway for about 45 mins in 100+ degree heat the shifter got tight again. it also squeaks this time, sounds like from the ball socket. maybe i can lube the ball socket with something. do you think that the lube could become thin while hot and not do its job?

Did you ever make sure the linkage wasn't hitting the cat heat shield?

You can completely split the socket (of the "ball and socket" fulcrum joint) in half and lube it to your heart's content and put it back together. It might help.

thanks for the reply. no cat. after taking off the rubber on the spring the tightness is most defiantly in the shifter ie not hitting something or hardness in trans. I may try to lube what do yall suggest. the only other thing i could think of would be the cs bracket needing to be adjusted? but driving normal city there is no problems at all?

maybe the heat from the cat is making the shifter hot an its expanding an not wanting to move freely.. i know to put my buddys b&m knock off shifter in his se-r we had to grind some shit down to make it fit right..

okay i just went outside and it appears that the squeak is between the brass bushing that the shifter slides through and the purple/blue "socket" any ideas?
