Kind of off topic question about this picture above... I see people install these springs two different ways. Is there an upside and a downside to the springs or it really does not make a difference?

What do you think about using silicone hose? I've got some silicone hose sitting around, I wonder if it would work better than heater/rubber hose? Or is rubber more durable in this case?
