Kind of off topic question about this picture above... I see people install these springs two different ways. Is there an upside and a downside to the springs or it really does not make a difference?

Use a few raps of electrical tape at even intervals along the cut section to hold the hose on the spring. I hope that makes sense.

What do you think about using silicone hose? I've got some silicone hose sitting around, I wonder if it would work better than heater/rubber hose? Or is rubber more durable in this case?

As long as you think when it rubs it wont squeak I doubt it would be that bad. Heater hose is pretty cheap so that is why I used it.

For a while Hyperco didn't release a "correct" installation method so people were installing them how ever they felt was best. Because everyone was so happy with them, Hyperco was hesitant to recommend anything. Eventually they did say the tight coils should be installed "up", their reasoning being that the tight coils are dead coils and would just contribute to unsprung weight if installed "down". It is a minor difference but that's likely why you've seen them done both ways. You could argue that with the tight coils "down" the center of gravity moves a tiny, tiny bit lower, but the unsprung weight factor is much more important.

The tight coils should be "up" though like in Happynole's picture. Same goes for the Road Magnet springs.

Reviving an old thread - because now I'm paranoid - did I put the wrong springs in the front?
Which has more 'dead' coils, the front or the back?

On Road Magnets: I'm not sure if there's any difference in the number of coils (Front to Back), but the Rear coils ARE narrower guage wire. If you've got a set of vernier calipers, the Rear springs will read about 12.2mm wire diameter (guage). The Fronts are about 12.8mm wire diameter (guage).

Back "On Topic":
My "Tech-Tip" for installing the (1/2" - 12.7mm I.D) heater hose is to use Tire Mounting lube. Keep the inside of the hose as wet as possible as you work it around. I still haven't gotten the hose on the Top of my Front Springs (tighter coil wind). I'm thinking of using a cone-tipped air nozzle to try and keep the lube in there, and "inflate" the heater hose a little.

Nice try for trying to take the credit but there's already a how to I did in the suspension tech part for the hose...so thanks for that, your stock rubber rings on the top will be fine to do the top, no need for hose.

Also, the 'dead coils' on the front does differ from the back (hence my question), I just need to know how many dead coils are in front/back, or any other help on deciphering the two.

Anyone else with some helpful ideas?

Anyway, I used whatever was there from stock. I did not use heater hose for the springs. I did not use a dust cover for any of the shocks.
