Hypercos and road magnets are basically stiff lowering springs.... The AGX's are stock length shocks and struts..... Better to go with a shortened strut body (Tein coilovers, CSK's)

It is not an "ideal setup" to mate the AGXs with the Hyperco or Road Magnet springs. However, it is certainly a very workable, and highly affordable set-up.
The
exact combo of Hyperco Gen II, AGX's, and Koni bumps was reviewed in SCC by both Dave Coleman and Mike Kojima.
Both of whom proclaimed it a very acceptable,
inexpensive, set-up. The stiff spring rate keeps you off your bumpstops in most situations, and should you hit the bumpstops the Koni bumpstops themselves are "progressive rate" bumpstops. In effect, the Koni bumpstops become a part of the springs themselves.
Further, when Mike K, Chriscar and the Hyperco Engineers designed the Hyperco Gen II's, one of the overriding and specific performance criteria was that the springs would indeed work with stock length struts, specifically the AGX's.
I happen to own AGX's, Hyperco Gen II, Koni bumps, Cusco FSTB, AT RSTB, Superpro caster bushings, Progress RSB, OEM dustboots, B14 wheels and ES100 tires. Is it ideal? Nope. Was it a vast, vast, overwhelming improvement over stock? Yep. It even "bottoms out" LESS than stock due to the (much) higher spring rates.
Thee Only Thing I would improve on my DD Classic, is to
upgrade to the CSK's. Oh yeah, and I'm adding an Ikea brace when I get some body-work done, just for chuckles.
In conclusion, I agree with you gentlemen
without question that the CSK's would be a better ($$$) strut to utilize, however when on a strict budget the AGX's work perfectly well with the Hyperco Gen II's or Road Magnets.
2 cents.
