for the ball joint: you need vice grips to put around the rubber boot itself as you are tightening the nut
for future reference, you do not need to remove the ball joints to change a tranny in a G20, it takes too long and using the 22MM wrench to get that nut of is a pain
next time you can remove both shock bolts (the long 17mm bolts with the 17mm nuts, the bracke caliper and take the tie rod nut out and the pull down on the shock tower
or you can remove the nut that connects the shock mount to the knuckle assembly (it's under the black metal cap, use a hammer and a flat head screw driver to pry it off)...if you remove that nut, the nut from the tie rod end and the brake caliper you would be able to pull the axle out also w/o having to remove the ball joints
