cool. I'll take a look. What type of place would do sandblasting like that, or whatever should be used to take off some of the rust and the paint?

The coating does look rough, but it has no affect on how they perform. Sandblast/Prim/Paint and they will look good as new.

what kind of paint is used on them that's flexible like the spring?

powdercoat I would think would be the best bet

talked to powdercoat guru we got in town here and he said he refuses to do springs because the 400 degree bake would change the temper of the springs.

I guess I'll need some flexible paint or something then. Anyone know what the best paint they use on bumpers is (that stuff flexes pretty decently)?

^duplicolor has a flexible bumper paint
The writing will be upside down if the coils are installed correctly...yeah,it was a production flaw

I used rustolium (blue) came out like new.. One can did all four springs..
