B13 / B14 solid rear strut mounts
So we are in the development stages of design on the B13 and B14 solid rear strut mounts.

I understand there is a desire for more suspension travel for the B14 chassis and that is an easy fix by making a solid plate.

For the B13 is everyone happy with the mounting location for the rear strut? I can either mount the strut higher, lower or even with the body mount. If I am to mount the spherical bearing flat with a 0.25 in thick plate the bearing will sit about 0.25 into the body of the car.

Any thoughts??

In general, anything that can be done to maintain the 3" of OEM travel is good.

That is why we (the forum) are so enamored with CSK struts. Custom Shortened Koni struts, made by cutting down an OEM strut body, and then utilizing the correct Koni insert. Allowing full suspension travel with aftermarket springs (Hyperco, Road Magnet, etc...) that allow for a minimal (> or equal to a 1-inch) drop on the vehicle.

That's all I've got, but I would love to hear from some more mechanically astute folks.

That is what I would do and what you are supposed to do if you lower a car. Get a strut that now works with the new geometry. Most guys out there dont have this setup because of the cost so I am trying to adapt this to the worst car scenario. I can make them anyway we need.

If I was to put the mounting location back in the same spot as factory what are the issues? I saw a hokey setup where some guy was taking the rear mounts as cores, cutting out the centers and welding in a spherical bearing. That makes them cheaper because you dont have to do anything about the mounting location, but they are thin and made from sub par materials.

there is no need for a bearing is the rear....they dont turn do a search for motivational rear mounts on the old forum.

Spherical bearings are needed for independent suspensions.

I think he is refering to B14's. B14's have a multi-link beam suspension.

Yeah the B14 will not have the spherical bearing it will use ES bushings.

OH YEA!!!!! i forgot the b14 had a differant rear setup lol. i never in my life messed with a b14 suspension :o

Anyone know the dia on the factory B14 springs??? I need to know what isolator to use..

The P10 needs a setup like this BAD. The ones that are currently out there aren't the best setup. I'm sure you could make a killing on the P10 crowd.
