Can you elaborate some more on the down sides, what he didn't like. Is it a comfort problem or getting in and out of the car? What kind of seats did he get?

It is certainly believable, but I was really thinking about finding some lightweight replacements The ride quality is a little on the harsh side already with the roads as crappily paved as they are around here

I've got a Corbeau (FX?) tube seat in my B13. It is 10x more comfortable than the stock seat, especially on long drives.

Getting in and out, on the other hand, really sucks now.

I still have stock belts for on the road driving, but G-Force 5-point latch-link belts and a harness bar for competition (harness bar is temp until the cage is finished).

He has a set of Tenzo-R's and while they are not the best seats, my gripe is not with the build quality but that type of seat in general. I'm 5'8 and around 225lbs, and while I'm not pouring out of my jeans, it does make it a little hard for a guy like me to get in/out of those seats. They hold you well, but if the car is mainly a street car or sees limited track time, it may not be worth it.

His seats:

The seats are actually pretty comfortable for long rides, but that hard side bolster always seems to hit me in my butt-bone everytime I go to sit down. Not to mention the hassle it becomes to strap on a harness everywhere you go. I thought originally that it wouldn't be that bad and that I could learn to adjust, but I would never do this on my DD. Maybe those seats with the factory 3-point belts? But who knows, in my opinion, the seats in the SE-R are some of the better factory seats and I would do harnesses before upgrading the seat.

One trick some people do, if their 5-points are latch-link type, is to fasten the links of the lap and shoulder belt together on each side with a ty-rap or, I've even seen them welded (!). If you do that, you eliminate fumbling for all the pieces every time. If you don't use the anti-sub strap for the street, it means just one connection.

actually the harnesses that are in my buddies car are just like those, with the central lock where each side is a lap/shoulder belt, and while they're a better comprimise than the 5pt, there is still a bit of hassle for a DD.

It's really up to what you can tolorate. I thought they were great for the first couple months or so, their ability to keep you in place was well worth their price and kept you in touch with the car. but after a while you just want to get in and go. So for a car you drive a couple times a month, I think they're great, but I wouldn't do it in my DD without keeping the oem 3pt belts for use day to day.

I have Sparco Torino's and love them! Most comfortable seat to sit in, but a little bit of a pain to get in and out of 100 times a day everyday.

If you are considering racing harnesses also consider a roll bar. The two kinda go hand in hand. One keeps you strapped upright in the car, the other keeps the roof from smashing your head while you're strapped upright in the car if you should end up flipped over.

I could be wrong but I don't think you can use anything other than the stock 3 point belt on public roads.

From the dead(ish)

I think you can use 4 points as long as they don't have a camlock system, just regular buckles. Also is there an aftermarket alternative for a harness bar in a B14 or would I hav to get one made?
