JWT S3R cams, possible upgrades?
Hi guys.

Just bought a P11 that I have wanted for YEARS, so happy.

I am VERY happy with the performance, this is just a little self-teaser (oo err) to see if there is a possible upgrade.

I have read slightly of Tomei Poncams. Guys who drive cars with these cams in say that there is a definite improvement over the S3Rs and people who have gone from pon cams to S3Rs have always returned to the pon cam.

I actually have no idea of the profiles of either cam. I'm not a novice but I by no means know my stuff when it comes to the technical wazzle dazzle stuff.

Will someone please tell me the benefits of upgrading to Tomei? Or is there another make like the Cat Cams, or a more agressive JWT cam that is worth while?

The car has a hot shot header, CAI and a 2.7" exhaust (all this was done in 2005) so bigger cams are an option I would think.

Keep in mind that more aggressive cams might be good for up top only, and with RR's low 6700 rpm redline you wouldn't be able to use that power.

G20 2000-2002:
STOCK: INTAKE - .370" (9.4) LIFT / 232º DUR - EXHAUST - .346" (8.8) LIFT / 240º DUR - OVERLAP - 8º

S3R Roller Rocker - .450" (11.4) LIFT / 262º DUR - ??

Get a JWT S3R for Roller Rocker!

Tomei Pon Cam for RR is 260* duration and 11.2mm of lift.

S3 cams are perfect for the low RPM limits of a RR engine! The are at max power right after you should shift into the next gear to toss right back into torque land of RR-ville.

Then again, Tomei is a good bit cheaper and similar spec! (probably better for lower end, in fact!)

I agree with these guys, the S3s may be suited better for the RR motor.

I can tell you this though, I've had nearly all the JWT SR20 cams in various NA cars and now I have Tomei poncams, the 272's, which are about as big as you should go on the stock valve train. At this point, id rank the top 3 like this, considering cost:

1) Tomei (are half the price of JWT)

2) JWT S3

3) Tie between JWT S4 and JWT C3

This is my first set of Tomei, in a 97 SE-R, I like them a lot, and considering costs, I rate them just a bit better than the S3s. There is this upper mid range I've found to be a nice touch, past 5200RPM or so, but of course, you have the RR.. But you can extrapolate a bit

Storm88000: He has RR, you are talking about total different cams... make no sense.

Most people on UK forums likes Tomei Poncams over JWT S3R. Most even cammed RR´s peaks around 6000rpm so both cams will suit. It would be nice to see side by side comparsion of both cams on dyno.

JWT makes RR S3 and S4 cams, I've had both, and now I have Tomei poncams. What makes no sense?
