well i'm not trying to make it a full race car.. as it's my everyday car too.. but sometimes i use to play it in drag with friends.. though which is better to gain for more wide torque..

I also heard about one of my friends that 2.5" is quite too big for a DE?.. as what I read from se-r.net they sugget of 2.25" just enough for the engine to breath...

you can do 2.5 no problem, it's what I run no question, just do a good muffler (all in taste, search around here for various videos) and a resonator is a must. Do full exhaust to the rear as well, for a daily driver you don't need to shorten it for any reason.

If you want you can do 2.25, same principles apply. If you want I can try and get a video of my 2.5" setup and give you pics and specs.

DEs put out a lot of air. 2.25 isn't much over stock, or isn't it stock? and that's for low to mid RPM.. If your taking it to redline or beyond, wouldn't you want to get air out of there? I've seen 3" cat backs on NA 4cyls.. I've heard people say the bigger the better, and others say it dont matter. I've ran my car for a while with just an open cat, nothing after. no issues other than noise complaints...

I can believe this here. I just had my exhaust changed from side exit magnaflow glasspack to a vibrant oval muffler added on top of it. I ran it to the stock location. With both of those mufflers and the few extra bends I know I got a small bit of added back pressure added. I feels like it wants to actually go forward a little more now. Little more TQ to get it going.

Ya gotta go with the Dynomax VT muffler, I love mine. The baffle inside the muffler is spring connected so the higher the exhaust flow the more the baffle opens. At idle and cruise its stops that drone noise that gets on everyones nerves.

Your on the right track for size, I agree with everyone else saying that you gotta have the back pressure, the motor needs it. I will post some pics later for ya, I gotta get to work now but i'll try to get them tonight.

I had 2.5 inch mandrell bend custom made(by me) exhaust, no cat, straight through, Magnaflow free flow muffler, nice sound at 7.5k

then my exhaust rusted and 4 year later i had to change it to a megan racing catback(custom fitted because it was made for a SE-R) i think it was a 2 1/4 inch.

i would do 2.5 with a resonator still get just about the same power and you wont be making so much noise

I have a bolted-on DE, SSAC header, 2.5" mandrel bent piping, Magnaflow Resonator, Vibrant Stealth Muffler both of which are 2.5" in/out, and a OEM-replacement catalytic converter which is 2.5" in/out.

The sound quality is very good, but it is still slightly too loud for me. I am older than most on this forum and really like things quiet. I am going to switch out my single Magnaflow Resonator for two (2) Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonators in-line (ala Martin on MotoIQ). See how that does.

Try reading this, it helped me a ton with my B13 setup:

http://www.sr20-forum.com/200sx-se-r/32739-b14-aftermarket-exhaust-kit-system-choices-direct-bolt.html

It is for the B14, but well worth reading. Plenty of the same stuff applies, same companies, same products, for the most part just slightly different piping-kits.

Straight pipe DE = low end tq loss . My opinion go with a nice 2.5 cat back + high flow cat for good low end power . I dyno'd my de with a 2 1/4 stright pipe to a hks mufler and lost tq then later switched to a 2.5 meagen cat back and picked up tq and hp . Meagan cat backs come with a silencer woich quiets the heck out of it and felt like it picked more low end tq But it also chokes it in the top end .They also sound real ricey though . Everyone likes the vibrants muflers i miht try one on my meagan rear section .

And defenetly dont think that a straight pipe on a VE motor will be queit ! Lol
