I call them puddle suckers. I've seen a lot of cars that have been hydro locked. I've seen cars with factory intakes hydro lock too.

My b13 came with a place racing cai. I haven't had any problems. I think the key is to not go wot through deep water.

I've done it lol I don't go anywhere so it's cool... Heh

I once hydrolocked my civic (went through a puddle with the clutch in) and it completely shut the car off the filter was SOAKED... I bought a new one threw it on, made it into a SRI and drove home perfectly fine... compression was still over 190 so it didn't do any damage.. Just some smoke at first from the exhaust...

i don't think your motor was truly hydrolocked if you simply replaced the filter and drove off fine...

from what i have heard from other people is that the k&n filter oil keeps the water out of the filter, kind of like a water repellent, im going to splash water on my new k&n filter when i get it to test it out

ive seen a kid from my school that had his filter 1/2 way under standing still water and no water got sucked up in there when he started the car and moved it (clogged storm drains in a parking garage at my school, it was on a 2 month old mazda that was under warranty)

But everyone keeps saying I'll be fine... lol

Why they are keep saying that they'll be fine? I am wondering about it.

I had a Hotshot CAI on my old B14 SE-R for like a year through winter and I had no issues with hydrolock driving through storms.

6 plus years of driving with a cold air intake, about 5 inches off the ground, I do not try to forge through water that even looks remotely deep.

Some care with what you drive through should be ok. With the random locations where it can downpour a crap ton of rain, invest in a bypass valve.

Had a friend who had some free dyno time, on his QR he lost 5hp with a bypass valve,
Not sure how this is relative to this thread but the vodka told me to respond to it.

It's the price you pay for protection just in case if it would ever happen and you want to gun it through and forge your way onward!
