engine stutters when clutch is engaged
ok my friend has a S14 stock engine not an SR
he recently changed the clutch pressure plate and slave cylinder.
now how ever, when engaging the clutch it does not come back all the way up.
also when engaged the engine starts to stutter.
any guess?
his guess is the master cylinder but i'm not sure if it would cause the engine to stutter like that. could he have installed the pressure plate in wrong and thats whats causing this?
thanks for the help guys

Did he bleed the fluid through the system when the slave was replaced? this must be done or else the pedal won't push the clutch far enough to dis-engage.

What do you mean? After pressing the clutch pedal down, when released the clutch pedal doesn't come all the way back up?

That sounds like the TOB being pushed too far and the clutch pedal needs adjusting to stop that from happening. Maybe.

That sounds like the TOB is over-centering (being pushed too far) and the clutch pedal needs adjusting to stop that from happening. Maybe.

ya like the clutch stops coming up where it disengages. when i looked at it i could play with it. it'll free play to the engaging point. and when you engage the clutch the motor starts to stutter like it wants to die.

Use your words.

The clutch disc, or the clutch pedal?

Also, what is "it"?

And what do you mean by "engage the clutch"?

sorry the pedal. when i mean by engaging it's the point where when you step on the pedal and the clutch lets go of the gear and allows you to shift. sorry if i'm being confusing

I'm pretty sure the clutch arm is traveling too far and either over-centering the pressure plate diaphragm or pushing the throw-out bearing too far dislodging it from the input shaft of the transmission. If that is what's happening and you're lucky enough to have the TOB recover and center itself back onto the shaft then all you should have to do is re-adjust the clutch pedal plunger that actuates the master cylinder to prevent this from happening.

It could be something else going on. I'm not really experienced with hydraulic clutches.
