240 Guys Need Your Advice
Ok I have a super clean 91 notch back with a blown up motor sitting. I'm gonna start picking away at it this winter. I just want to make a nice driver out of it. I found a wrecked 300zx NA with 80K on it. I can buy it for cheap but I'm trying ot figure out what is actually able to be used on the 240. I know the brakes swap over. I was wondering what else can be used. Does the diff swap over?? I want to use the wheels and brakes and hopefully diff. So any info is appreciated. I'm trying to figure out if its worth buying the Z and selling off what I don't need. Thanks guys

Are the NA brakes the same as the TT? Is changing out the Master Cylinder and Brake Booster necessary on the 240 when doing that swap? What about the wheels?

How much are you paying for the 300ZX? If it's cheap enough it will be worth it to part it out when have everything you need off of it.

I believe the brakes are the same. Good thought on the master!! Wheels will work once you swap the hubs.. 5 lug FTW! And I know the fuel pump, MAF, computer, T tops, motor &trans, seats (leather in good shape) are worth a little money. So I will sell those and other parts off.

Z32 brakes depend more on the year than the TT vs. NA models. Basically the calipers function the same (4-piston front/2 piston rear) but are different widths to accomodate different rotor thicknesses depending on the year/trim.

There are 30mm calipers and 26mm calipers, to go with two different rotor thicknesses (rotor diameter is the same). These are the fronts - I believe the rears are all the same. I'm not sure if pads matter, but if you try to put the wrong rotors in (either way) it won't work.

Check out this site: The Definitive 300ZX Brake Swap Paqe for excellent info on all this.

If you swap over all four hubs, be sure to swap the master as mentioned above. That made a nice difference when I finally got to it.

You also asked about the differential - IIRC the Z32 NA diff is a direct swap, but the diff from a turbo car is not. Either way the final drive is a little longer, I think. Going to the Z32 diff may not be much of an upgrade - depending how many miles are on that viscous diff, it could be toasted.

hey thanks for all that. good stuff there. Its a non turbo Z with 80,000 on it. And my 240 doesn't have LSD. So I will probably swap the diff. I have a set of TT brakes too. So depending on what year I will figure out which is the better route. Thanks man

tt brakes are better and some of them are iron...I know my 30mm tt brake setup NEVER faded. Of course I was running ss lines, and ebc greens/or yellows depending on the type of driving. The biggest key as the other guy said though is the bmc...I also noticed a big difference when I switched this.
