Traditionally the convention does 3 run groups. Novice, Intermediate, Advanced/Instructor.

For the most part, it's up to us. In 2012, the track rep/instructor (Reed) gave us "the speech" in the morning meeting. We also had classroom instruction regarding track layout, passing zones, flags etc, etc. I also think Reed hopped in his car and paced the Novice group for a few laps. After that, it was us that provided in-car instruction to the folks that requested it. In 2012, most of the day was torrential downpours. I think we only had 2 light impacts into the tire wall(s). Lots of spins and flying mud, though. I was amazed no one had the "big one". In hindsight, I think all of that rain kept us on our toes and hence out of trouble. It also made the wear and tear on the equipment a non-issue. As a matter fact, I don't think anyone broke. A dry track could be a different story, though.

Thanks for the clarification @hammerin hank and @BenFenner!

Hank, will you be instructing for this event?? @Kyle mentioned Reed earlier. How many instructors total will be there?? I have participated in many trackdays before and been to Nelson, but never got a chance to participate in an event there.

my brother may bring his Mazdaspeed6 instead, that's the AWD sedan version. really cool car. I told him to bring the MR2 but he's afraid of it. it's so easy to lose control with them if you apply too much throttle at a certain point of a turn.

Nice powerful MR2 ...but your bro dont have the balls to drive it?
Damn I wanted to see it ....I could care less about a mazdaspeed6(not that its a bad car, just does nothing for me)
Whatever, the more the merrier....I dont care if someone has to bring a YUGO,it beats sitting at home and watching everyone else have a blast!

It's not really about balls, more about being safe. Have you ever driven a 93 MR2 with lots of boost? It's sooo easy to get out from underneath you, mid engine, RWD, so small.. hit a tiny bit of wet road and you are spinning.. my bro has only done a couple of track events, and never with the MR2 (he got it 4 months ago) He doesn't want to cause anything bad to happen - he daily drives the Mspeed6 and has tracked that so can handle it better, I guess.

Who knows, maybe he will change his mind. I'd like him to bring the MR2 as well.

P.S. this is horrible, but my friend with the Skyline (no he's not coming but I wish) had 3 friends die in two separate MR2 turbo crashes. Poles and trees. 1 person survived. I didn't want to write that but its the truth. IDK. He should just go in the beginner class and take it easy. But we'll see, few months to go yet.
