I guess the "gotcha" is that it has to be a 1/4 mile track.

Google Maps of sites

Looks like Carolina Dragway is it as far as 1/4 mile. So that leaves Allendale as the biggest "city" between the two, as far as I can tell.

P.S. That also makes it 1 1/2 hours from the track event, should anyone need to limp back.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm not too fond of driving 1600+ miles and spending over $1K in expenses to eat at a Waffle house/truck stop every day I'm there. Don't even get me going on what it would be like to find Crown Royal for Cliffy.

^^^agree. But that's an easy opinion for me 'cause I think drag racing is B-O-R-I-N-G.

Seriously, I've never been to one drag event during a convention. Track day is where it's at.

I used to think the same thing. I've grown to appreciate the efforts some of our members put into it, though. And for that I go and show my full support. It's way fun to hang with the drag guys. The girls are nicer looking at drags, as well. Just saying.

Just my 2cents here...
July!! September is one of the nicest times of the year down here. The weather is cooler with plenty of sunny days. July = very hot and very humid with almost daily afternoon thunderstorms!

I'd stick with a September date.

Sorry that I was so vague and unclear in my original post sir. We will likely be able to get our date for next year sometime in July this year, instead of having to wait until September to get our date for next year.

Gentlemen, I am at least a little concerned regarding Savannah. AS of now we can have a road course date in our target time frame and the hotel would kill for us to come back, looks like they would give us whatever we want to make us happy. But for whatever reason there are just no 1/4 mile tracks closer than 180 miles. Closest drive time is to Darlington Dragway because it is 165 miles up I-95 instead of all 2 lane roads like anything else. Best guess is that it would still be at least 2.5 hours away. The powers that be have another conference call tonight, but there is no easy fix on the horizon. Splitting the distance between Roebling and any of the 1/4 mile tracks leaves us camping in tents in a big field. To make the convention a positive experience for the entire group may mean we need to look in another direction.

Unfortunate but I agree.

IMHO it'd be a shame to scrap a plan for the sake of a 1/4 mile. I thought the choice was driving distance vs. 1/4 mile, and the driving distance won. ??
