BenFenner, I'd like to put you to work Mr. ComputerBrain.

Damn TomTom and $74.00 to update my 2-year old unit.

Out in the sticks, in the middle of nowhere, on Hughesnet satellite? Don't even think about downloading such a large file. However, TomTom does not ever mention that until you have already paid the update-money and it failed. Then they tell you.

At the no-tell HOE-tell that I am currently sitting in? It downloaded, but for some reason it is a corrupted file or some such happy-horseshit.

FAWK.

It still works but it thinks that Rob's home address does not exist. Nor does it recognize my farm. It was hilarious trying to punch in "start point" and "destination" when I left.

Google maps app here. I will bring my garmin as well but it takes its sweet time finding a signal. About to just get a suction cup holder for my phone.

Screw standalone GPS - Once you use a connected nav you'll never go back. It's Google Navigation for me.

Hopefully they will let you re-download it without charging you again.

There are two possibilities.

1) Your computer told you it downloaded it properly, but it did not and the connection failed for some reason and you have an incomplete file. These days, when an operating system reports a file as "corrupt" 99% of the time it means it is "incomplete" and you're missing the tail end of it due to a download failure. Rare, but it happens.

2) If the OS is not reporting it as corrupt, and it is the TomTom software or system that is telling you this, then it could be any manner of issues (including a truncated download as well).

Re-downloading of the file is almost always the solution. Or call your buddy Ben (or anyone else sitting at a computer) and have them do some MapQuesting for you on the fly?
