2012 Ultimate SR challenge info. rules, and general smack talk.
I am pleased to be organizing the 2012 Ultimate SR challenge. While the title is a bit misleading I think we all understand the premise. Lets find who has the most well rounded FWD car at the 2012 convention.

I would FIRST like to point out that this event is designed to recognize the most WELL ROUNDED car at the convention. NOT a 1 trick pony like show stunta, drag king, or all out road race car. It is designed to embody and give respect to cars that can do it all well.

Everyone is welcome to participate however if you enter in THIS challenge the winner will be the one that has the best average finish in all 3 disciplines. The primary goal here is to HAVE FUN and I have found that the most fun is had when the event is run smoothly and SAFELY. As such safety will be at the forefront for the entire event. If it is not safe it won't fly!

The Vehicle Ruleset

Permissible vehicles:
All B and P chassis are allowed as are any Maxima or Altima cars. There is NO limitation to modifications as long as the vehicle retains it's front engine front wheel drive orientation. While there may be S chassis cars at this event the core of this forum and our group are FWD Nissan dorks and this event is designed for us specifically.

Tires:

On the road course tires must have a DOT rating.
At the drag strip tires are open
At the concours anything goes.... park your hardest

Here are the technical vehicle requirements:

1. Any competing car MUST pass a basic tech inspection in order to compete. This will be determined by the hosting track and their tech. rules. At a minimum cars will require:
Drivers and passenger seats and seat belts must be securely bolted and able to properly restrain both occupants. Passenger seats are likely required at the road course if you are a beginner or novice driver so please keep that in mind.

2. NO leaking fluids of ANY kind. This simply will not be tolerated! It creates an unsafe condition for you as well as OTHERS. Please have your car working properly!

3. Battery must be PROPERLY secured regardless of position. If it is in the car it better damn well be proper. The track will require this and I will scrutinize this heavily.

4. The road course will require helmets. More than likely they will require an SA rated helmet. Please make sure you have one of your own or at a minimum one to borrow. You simply will not be allowed on the road course without one. We will defer to the track for these rules as well as passenger rules.

5. Make sure your car is proper. I will personally tech. each car at the track day (for our event) and check on them throughout the day, keep them clean people!

2012 SR Challenge Scoring:
The dynamic score from the challenge will be calculated by adding the competitor’s fastest drag time and their fastest roadcourse time together. This will give their “dynamic time.”

The lowest dynamic time is worth 100 points. Points for second and subsequent places are determined by dividing the winning time by each other time, then multiplied by 100.

For example, if the winning combined dynamic time is 115 seconds and second place is 120 seconds, the 115 driver receives 100 points while second place gets 95.8 points (115/120 = .958 x 100 = 95.8).

Concours scoring is based upon the car’s score in each of four categories: Engine, Interior, Exterior and Overall Appearance. Each category has a maximum of 25 points for a total concours score of 100. The Overall Appearance portion of the total concours score is used to judge effort and creativity.

The concours is worth 1/4 of the dynamic score in the total scoring and is therefore divided by 4 before being added to the other score.

Adding the competitor’s dynamic time to their concours score/4 will give the competitor their total score. A maximum of 125 points is available.

If there is inclement weather, the drag racing portion of the event may be canceled. If so, the results would only count the road course and concours portions of the event.

This scoring model is taken from and used by Grassroots Motorsports and modified to fit our event. NO modifications will be made to this judging criteria. Bring your a game and a reliable car. No whining, snivveling, excuse making, or cheating will be tolerated.

With that said it will be a HELL of a lot of fun!

Road course timing will be done either with my in car timing system depending on the # of competitors or by stop watch. We will simply use the fastest lap time of the day with the driver designated to pilot the car at the start of the event.

Drag racing we will record the track assigned # for each vehicle and use the fastest time slip submitted to us for that car #.

Concours will be judged by myself and 1 other person. No judge may be allowed to participate in the competition!

Who will be acknowledged:
The top finisher takes the spoils and bragging rights.
Top road course time.
Top drag time.
Top show points.

We hope to have some sponsors for the event to be able to actually have prizes, at this point it is still early to post what they will be however we will update this thread with prizes as we make progress.

Challenge Entrance:
Participants will be required to pre-register and pay for the track day and will also be responsible for their drag race entry and costs.

In addition to the above costs a $50 entry fee will be required to be paid up front a minimum of 30 days prior to the event. Once the registration form is announced, payment instructions will be given. The entry fee is going to pay for special competitor packets that will include elite status items that no one else will get. Depending on the # of entrants any remaining $ will be awarded to the first place competitor who can be a stingy bastage with it or buy us all drinks

I will publicly share all information regarding the amount collected and accounting information relative to spending. Because I am organizing this separate from the convention items I want to be up front and honest about that!

All competitors will be required to complete a formal entry form and submit it to me. I will make the form available within the month. If you do not complete the formal entry you will not be part of the competition.

Feedback that is wanted and unwanted:

1. I am NOT looking for feedback regarding the judging of the competition. The above criteria and ruleset is SET in STONE unless a compelling case can be presented to modify it for the benefit of all competitor's!

2. PLEASE keep posting in this thread relevant to the challenge.

3. If you have CONSTRUCTIVE feedback please share it with me, if you have DESTRUCTIVE feedback PLEASE do NOT share it AT ALL. I WILL request mods. to edit out useless drivel as well as those whining about the criteria or ruleset.

This is going to be a LOT of fun! I will personally be responsible for this challenge to remove any burden from the main convention organizers. I look forward to seeing everyone in 2012!

Sounds like fun, although I doubt ill be doing the road course with a setup drag car though, but im in for the drag and show but we will see how it goes. If the drag racing goes well i might just throw some street tires on the front, adjust the suspension and give the road course a shot, but probably not though. Just too risky especially being on stock brakes.

The road course is before the drag race day.

yeah then thats a big negative, lol. Id still like to do the others though. If im required to at least drive the road course in order to get a time i might just run the car easily around the track in order to at least get a time but not gonna push it, lol.
