Do B14 fuel tanks have a drain?
"My" B14 is about 25 minutes away so I can't easily check.. just making a checklist of what I need to do to get the car running (hasn't run in.. hell at least 2-3 years). Gas is varnish now, fuel pump is dead because of the gas, so I need to remove the gas and I was hoping the tank would have a drain bolt like other cars I've worked on before do..

Thanks!

Also, in case there is a bunch of rust in the tank, does anyone have experience with replacement tanks? RockAuto sells a "Spectra Premium" for 150, advanceauto sells the same one for $225....

Not sure. I just replaced the starter on the car to continue troubleshooting and discovered there was zero fuel getting to the engine, briefly removed the tank cover to see if pump was even trying to run and to see how much the gas was varnished.. I thought it was "partly shiny" in the tank but I honestly didn't spend much time looking.

For the record, the B14 (at least a 96) definately has a metal tank and not plastic. Mine is full of rust.

Car almost runs now, it tries, but doesn't quite make it.. ugh.

Sucks to be you.Its metal.
I have had to do this on two different NX in the past. Both sat for over 5years so rust in the tand, the fuel pumps and sender units were caked up and clogged.

Heres what I did...and what you need
-Igo get some long thick rubber gloves like dishwashing ones that go up to your elbows,or be prepared to get a shitload of cuts on your hands and arms....with gas burning them!! I wish I did this.
-Jack up the front of the car or do this on a hill so the fuel is toward the rear of the car
-Use a sipohon or pump(cheap at harbor freight) to get out as much gas as possible.
-remove the whole pump and sender assembly completely so thew tank is empty.
-I used an old credit card for a scraper, and another plastic scraper I had to scrape all the rust off the tank walls, and bottom.Actually a little fuel helps loosen this syuff and eventually you will have handfulls of crap to scoop out.
-Little by little keep cleaning, and use a small shopvac(I have a 1x1)to suck out the rest.
-Put in a new fuel pump, and sender(used is ok) and throw out the crusty/rustsy stuff or you are asking for trouble.
-Reassemble the tank.
-Pull fuel line off at the filter or fuel rail and pump a couple gallons of fresh gas through the lines.I actually had to get injectors, too, they were clogged.
-You probably will need to clean the tank at least one more time after driving some miles. After the new gas swishes around,it will loosen more sediment and start to pile up by the sock again....ask me how I know this...LOL.
Heres a couple pics.have fun,but be thorough with your cleaning or you will regret it.

Fun. I cleaned it out some but not that much, mine didn't look anywhere near that bad either lol

I really just want to see if this engine will even run at all. If it does it can keep the crap tank for now, I'm just going to put a new tank in it when the VE goes in, I don't have time to deal with it at the moment.

Injectors could be clogged, but I also suspect cam timing, sounds like it's massively off on timing right now and the cams were tossed in, who knows if the gears were ziptied on in the right spots when the original cams were removed (that occured 3 years ago).

I need to verify some more basics on this thing first, and make sure it's getting fuel at the rail now that it has a working pump (although a b13 pump that's WAY too big for the housing).

Then timing.. and spark.

If nothing else works I just need to decide if this free car is worth putting a VE swap in.
