I'll have the transmission out so hopefully It will be a little easier. Once that pin is out does the rod that goes through the seal just come out? I'm guessing that's how it has to as that seems to be the only thing holding the seal in

i think i may this same problem and not a atual crack on my tranny. Can you snap pictures of how you where able to pull the shifter rod out and which seal actually went bad?

^Agree! I have the same problem as well. I was told it's an axle seal but it seems to be good and besides, it had been replaced not too long ago. So my next guess was a crack in the tranny also but I'm thinking this may also be my problem. It would be a big help if you could take photos of what this seal looks like. Thanks!

Got the transmission out of the car (this is definitely necessary for this job as far as I could tell)

This is looking at where shift linkage meets the strike rod, the above picture that has a square around the roll pin is what you need to hammer out (that was the easier part) mine came out in two parts (inner and outer roll pin) and here is what you have after the roll pin is out:

The shift linkage bracket will come off leaving you with the bare strike rod:

This is the strike rod seal (this picture shows me hacking at the seal already)

The easiest way to get the seal out is to take a pair of channel locks and twist it out, came right out for me

The seal is out:

New seal in with RTV around it for added insurance:

Once the seal is in the hardest part is getting the new roll pin through the shift linkage bracket, if you have access to a vice it will be a lot easier, I ended up filing the end to get it started through the hole and hammered it with a sledge til it was flush

just for future reference for other people doing this you don't need to drop the trans to complete this job

I know I'm a rookie so that might be why I had a hard time but how did you go about the roll pin with the tranny still in the car?

used a punch set and disconnected the shifter linkage to be able to turn the shaft a little to give me a half way decent angle.

Hmm, was getting the new one back in a pain? I was thinking about re-using the one that was taken out but I'm glad I ordered a new one, the one I took out got pretty mangled
