Maybe someone can customize some flaps that go up and down like a house heater vent for the whole radiator area, go with a switch to flip them up or down.

Yea it can take my ve up to 20min to reach 180. But it stays there pretty nicely once there. Brand new napa stat too.

I know the stat is working fine because my engine temps go up after 5 min or so on the gauge cluster, but my after market gauge which reads the coolant after passing through the rad is what takes a while to get up there...

Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Dre uses a blocked front grill on his B13, which he claims doesn't really effect cooling much at all if I can remember correctly (feel free to correct me Dre). So I cannot see it harming much, just keep an eye on things.

Ever thought of getting a block heater?

The thing is if you block the grille, it removes the ram flow, but if the engine heats up, the fans will still pull air through. With the BA radiator, under normal driving the ram flow is unnecessary anyway. I complaint about blocking the rad in the summer is that the A/C doesn't work so well when it's blocked because the ram flow significantly helps that!

The point is when you are driving around in the winter cold it ends up cooling too much. It happens to me on the way home from work, I coast down a mountain and it cools the car down too much, even though it was perfectly warm before hand. And thats with a Stock radiator... I am also in PA though, freaken cold here in the winter.

engines still need to perform at a certain temprature to perform normal. on our race car we only have a 2x7" opening and still it doesnt cool enough. even if your car is turbo the motor needs to be at a normal operating temp

My car never has problems getting up to operating temp, even when it is 20 below zero. Since we have electric fans vs. the old pickups/cars that had a mechanical fan there really is no point to put card board in front of your radiator as far as a i am concerned.

Well, update: After putting in a new 180 degree NAPA thermostat, the pillar gauge now always reads dead nuts 180 after a short warm-up. My DASH gauge is still barely off the cold peg though. The VE temp sender must be bad...
