I believe I finally figured out my starting problem. Too easy. I wasn't pushing in the clutch pedal quite far enough.
I got the Factory Service Manual, stared at the wiring diagrams, and got ready for my next step. Power from the 'start' position of the ignition switch has to go first through the #3 alarm relay and then through the clutch interlock relay before it can reach the starter solenoid. I got some little spade terminals and connected them with about an inch of wire. I figured the clutch switch may have gone bad or maybe something funky with the alarm. I was gonna pull the relay(s), run the jumper wires as needed to see if power was really getting to the starter. Just for the heck of it I put in the key and turned it and my new baby started right up and purred.
Just an idiosyncrasy of a new car I wasn't familiar with. Not like my wife's Altima or my old Mustang 5.0. This car wants me to push the clutch all the way down, and then a little bit more, to keep the clutch switch from blocking power to the starter. Yeah, I'm gonna keep the little jumpers in the car in case I may need them. Is it as hard to adjust that clutch switch as it looks?
