What if Nismo had made an SE-R?
I was stuck in a boring training class today at work and started to think about my '96 and the 200SX in general. This train of thought led to thinking about all the Nismo special editions over the last 10 or 15 years... that thought eventually led to the following question. (yep, I was this board).

What if Nismo had made a special edition "Nismo" 200SX SE-R... what do you think it would of included? What would of been different than our regular SE-Rs? Let's call it a 200R or 250R as it's easy to get inspiration from the Nismo 400R.

Suspension would probably be the easiest place to start... here would be my suggestions.

Springs: Hyperco/RoadMagnet level of drop/rate
Shocks: AGX or even CSKs?
Brakes: AD22VF (hmmm but what about the rears and master cylinder?)
Rear Beam: Bent please!
Bushings: All Poly would be too stiff... a harder durometer rubber perhaps?
Braces: FSTB, RSTB, but would they have gone further? Perhaps foam filling or seam welding?
Wheels: Nismo 5 Spoke or something else by Rays? 15, 16, or 17? Hard to say. 15's would be the obvious choice due to weight and ability to fit over the AD22VF's, but they might of gone with 17s for style reasons. A 17in TE-37 for example looks great on the 200's chunky body.

That still would leave all the rest... body kit, paint, interior choices, and finally... engine and transmission.

Any thoughts? (other than I was trying really hard to stay awake in my training class!)

Could you imagine the price for that Nismo 200SX? I bet that would be a lil' pricey for being a Nissan econobox

I'd like to see a B13 or B14 VVL powered straight from the factory but what the hell, it's better to drop in a fresh 35,000miles engine to a 200,000miles B13 or B14 chassis

BTW, every B14 SR20 powered car in Mexico had AD22VF's

BM - Ehh, I suppose your right... the VZR was about as close to that as Nissan ever came. Oh well, it was "an exercise in thought" if you will. It's still not exactly what I had in mind, but it doesn't seem like anyone wants to discuss this further... so it's probably better to just leave it be.

kevo - I didn't know every B14 in mexico had AD22VFs. That's interesting. I used to own a Mexican B13 (GSR) that had some differences with the US SE-R. Nissan made some changes for higher altitude use, so systems like the A/C were very robust... I can see how the brakes would be a natural upgrade as well. Too bad my B13 didn't have them... it would of saved me the trouble of adding them.

Are you kidding? How could I forget that Nismo uses RoadMagnets and AGX's on their cars....
And if I was paying a Nismo price I damn well better get some better brakes than the AD22's
Nismo makes parts for our cars. Springs, motor mounts, and such and such

Don't misunderstand me, I typed every B14 SR20DE powered (Lucino GSR and Sentra GSS), B13 2000GSR had regular AD18's

I haven't upgraded my brakes, they're weak

If NISMO gotten their hands on the b14 SE-R/SE-L they would have came w/indeoendent rear suspension like the b13's did.

TRNh - I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I said a "Hyperco/RoadMagnet level of drop/rate." Not actual Hyperco/Roadmagnet springs... though, they wouldn't of been a bad choice either as an OEM supplier if the car had been built at Nissan's TN factory.

As for brakes, I'm not sure exactly what they would of used if not the AD22s. I suppose they might of adapted the NA 300ZX's brakes, but that would be a bit overkill. If I'm not mistaken, the limited edition VZ-R N1 had AD22s on it so AD22s would of been my guess. What do you think they would of chosen if not ADs?

Yes, Nismo offers a lot of parts for Nissan vehicles... how many of them are actually made *by* Nismo and how many made *for* Nismo by suppliers?

kevo - Don't misunderstand me. I wasn't suggesting you were wrong, only that I wished they had done that with my old B13 and saved me the trouble. It makes sense that they would upgrade the heat capacity of the brake system to combat low oxygen levels and high temps that Mexico City sees. Glad to see B14 owners lucked out.

Cesar - I wondered about that as well. The more I thought about it though, it seems like Nismo has more or less stuck to off the shelf parts and stayed away from major modifications to suspension design, so I doubt they would of spent the time on a B14 doing that. I could see them offering the car with a bent beam though to remove the fixed toe. It wouldn't be very hard or expensive for them to acomplish and as we all know, it makes a profound difference in how the B14 behaves.

I think it would have upgraded brakes, sport tuned suspension, Hellical LSD, I/H/E, lightweight fordged 5 spoke wheels, short throw shifter, Nismo pedals and shift knob, and badges.
