98 b14's have longer cat converters? WTF?
Is this true? I just bought a sp2 cat back exhaust, and I was thinking this is going to be a simple bolt on mod. **** this sucks. Not only does this longer cat thing got me bumed, but I came across this fitment issue with the hangers. Take a look at those pictures in this thread, HKS catback on a 98 se - SR20 Forum

I answered my own question. 1998 converters are longer, so I guess a exhaust shop will have to put this on for me. 2 inches has to be cut off and the flange welded back on. Why did nissan do this?

I think the longer cat and other emission equipment changes where made for the '98+ in order to sell the car in California. As a fellow '98 owner, I feel your pain.

Just buy a 95-97 cat or a ebay test pipe.

For what a new 95-97 cat cost, a exhaust shop can put the sp2 on for cheaper. Test pipes in cali are a no no. It's big time fines if you get caught with one of those

Yea, I had to shorten the Greddy center pipe on my '98, my old '93 Altima had different cats if it was California or not ... I had to shorten my Greddy cat back on that also.... Nothing like cutting up a brand new $600 exhaust system !
