Is my engine done for?
I know this is bad, but what is it? This first started last night, car has 161,xxx miles on it. Here is a video of the sound, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LosQcNkbYWE
well see i'm pretty sure mine was just a rod bearing went out
it was possibly fixable (not an expert here)
but in my case i didnt want to pay to get the car towed home
and i had another motor sitting here so i just tried to drive it the 20 miles home, this happened about 2 miles from my house

doesnt sound at all like the knock i had in my det. mine was like a card in a bike spoke consistent, and got louder and faster with higher rpms. My engine the click was deaper and louder than the idle. mine was a spun bearing(Rod Knock on the crank). check your oil and look for metal shavings. if there is metal sparkle in the oil i would consider trashing the engine, if no metal it might not be too late to save it. i went the rebuild route on my det and i have more into it than a new engine and its still not done. good luck

Well i'm set to pick up a new car on sunday. 1998 200sx ser, I'm bummed and happy at the same time. I only had this car for a year and only put 13,000 miles on it. I just don't understand it, I don't race my car, I change the engine oil and filter every 3000 miles with mobil 1 15w50. So what do you guys think is the most likley problem with my engine? Regardless, the car is up for sale. If I can get at least $1500 for it, I would feel fine with that.

Most likely the previous owner didn't take care of it. Did you ever do an ol analysis? That could have told you what to expect. The 15w50 may have been too thick. SR20's have tight tolerances and need a thinner oil for good flow at start-up. I have 332,000 miles on mine (bought new) and it still runs fine. I have been using Castrol Syntec 5w50.
