knocking noise.
I got a 5-speed '97 200sx ser and it's making a knocking noise when i slow down with no brake. for example, im at 3000 rpm driving in 1st gear, I let go the gas, and while its still in 1st gear and slowing down, and makes a knocking noise. but when i throw it in neutral or press the brakes, it stops knocking. its coming from the front of the car. sounds like its stressing somethin. idk. my friends and I have no clue what's making the noise. please help. thanks

From what it sounds like, and my past experiences, it sounds like your motor mounts are busted. When bought my 96 200SX SE-R about 2 years ago, the same knocking noise that you're hearing is what I heard when I let go of the pedal while in first gear, or in any gear really. That's most likely what it is, so get them checked out by one of your buddies(if they know anything about what they're looking at) or take it somewhere to get it check out.

Good luck dude.

thanks for the help guys. ohhhh. i forgot to add that when I turn left or right, theres also a knocking noise... so its more likely axles then? and/or maybe the motor mount too? i'll try to get both checked. i'll let you guys know if i need help again. but for now, keep the inputs coming. thanks!

If it happens while turning, it is most likely axles. Have someone watch the engine while you rev it in neutral. If it rocks a lot front to back, then it is engine mounts.

How much are axles? My car is doing the same thing. All I need is the axle right? What else should I change while doing the axles?

It might be worth it to replace the seals at the trans while they're off. The ones in the hubs wouldn't be a bad idea either.
